Nike Women's Marathon 2013: Running Through the Streets of San Francisco and Into the Fog

it's six in the morning and still dark, the adrenaline is already kicking in.
My nieces, Jules and Ciara, pumped about running early in the morning

approximately 30,000 thousand runners off to a slow start!!!

we cross the Embarcadero after the one mile marker, greeted by a beautiful view --
the Bay Bridge, partially covered in fog.

 we continue to run...walk...straggle

while the sun is trying to come out on the bay.

the rolling fog, the full moon and the Coit Tower provide a dramatic backdrop on the other side
we run through Fisherman's Wharf and into the fog...
and to the Cable Car turnaround
and to the Marina Green and heavier fog

adjacent to the Marina Green is a marina.  on a clear day, the Golden Gate Bridge is visible from here.  but I'm happy at the very tranquil scenery.
passing the Palace of Fine Arts, clouded with fog
the fog really thickens after a steep climb to the Presidio, to 7m or 10k marker.

followed by steep descent between the 9m and 10m marker.

then to the Golden Gate Park, 1/4 mile to the finish line.
 and to the finish line....

so proud of the women in my family: Jules, Joan and me for finishing the 1/2 marathon (13.1 miles), and Ciara for finishing the full marathon (26 miles)
CIARA

What a beautiful finish!!! I'm so sore and too tired to write!!!
